EARTH DAY 2009
Today marks the 39th anniversary of Earth Day -- the environmental awareness and appreciation day founded by United States senator Gaylord Nelson in 1970. Earth Day has spread around the world, and today more than one billion people in nearly 175 countries are expected to take part in celebrations.
